Lead Systems Operations Administrator

We have been retained by our client in Irving area of Dallas, Texas to deliver an excellent, Lead Systems Operations Administrator candidate for a technically challenging career opportunity on a Direct Hire basis or on contract-to-hire basis, direct-hire is fine for the right candidate.  Contract to hire is preferred by the client, but direct hire is perfectly acceptable for a candidate that fits well enough.

The Lead Systems Operations Administrator will manage and maintain production and non-production servers that support the organization’s Software as a Service (SaaS) products. This will include configuring and maintaining all supporting network and systems infrastructure in the organization’s data centers and cloud platforms. The Systems Operations lead will additionally perform database administration tasks. The Systems Operations Lead will plan and implement long-term infrastructure and operations initiatives in alignment with organizational priorities as directed by corporate leadership. The Lead Systems Operations Administrator will direct the efforts of the IT Support Technician to ensure adherence to corporate support response policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions
• Monitor SolarWinds network and systems alerts and quickly respond to all reported incidents
• Remotely respond to critical infrastructure-related issues in an on-call capacity
• Monitor and optimize MS SQL database performance
• Rebuild fragmented SQL database indexes
• Interface with Developer and Application Operations personnel for database troubleshooting
• Regularly back up SQL data and restore as required to production and non-production servers
• Configure and ensure the proper functionality of subscriber/publisher database replication
• Manage Active Directory Organizational Group structure and User/Computer membership
• Manage and troubleshoot server and workstation DNS records and lookup zones
• Maintain remote workstation Microsoft DirectAccess Intranet connectivity
• Configure corporate LAN HP switches, Meraki WLAN controllers, and Cisco firewalls
• Configure data center-based Barracuda & IIS load balancers and Cisco firewalls
• Recommend infrastructure technologies and best practices for corporate initiative planning
• Create virtual infrastructure or modify existing infrastructure to support application deployments
• Modify VM resource assignments in vCloud Director to best suit application requirements
• Troubleshoot production and non-production VM connectivity or systems resource issues
• Manage cloud service resources in support of cloud-based application service components
• Interface with client technical and business personnel to explain technical organizational details
• Interface with client and third-party technical personnel to troubleshoot systems interoperations
• Interface with organizational product teams to discuss infrastructure-related application issues
• Review and compare technical solutions vendors to make purchase recommendations
• Maintain network and systems audit compliance for industry standards and client requirements
• Architect networks and systems in consideration of business requirements and best practices
• Maintain regular Windows OS patching schedules and deployment procedures
• Collaborate with the Application Operations Lead to triage and troubleshoot production issues
• Manage Windows web services and make configuration adjustments in IIS 7
• Update systems operational procedures and infrastructure architectural diagrams
• Escalate systems and infrastructural issues to vendors and service providers as required
• Promptly and proactively decommission infrastructure that is no longer required
• Identify and implement best practices IT operational approaches to maximize service efficiency
• Manage software license renewals, assignments, and compliance reporting
• Review Office 365 product license purchases and assignments
• Maintain SSL certificates and domain name registrations

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Experience designing, implementing, and administering Windows server environments
• Ability to configure SolarWinds to monitor server health, uptime, and resource utilization
• Knowledge of MS SQL database architecture principles, a plus.
• Ability to create SQL queries and assist Developers in modification of existing queries, a plus.
• Experience managing Windows patches using WSUS and/or other patch management systems
• Knowledge of Active Directory domain best-practice design and management
• Experience configuring cloud storage, computing, and other services (Azure, a plus.)
• Ability to manage Office 365 product license assignments
• Experience using Microsoft Windows Performance Monitor (or SolarWinds, a plus)
• Ability to clearly communicate technical issues to nontechnical audiences
• Experience managing Windows web services in IIS
• Familiarity administering Windows Server 2003/2008/2012/2016
• Experience administering VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization platforms
• Familiarity with Windows PowerShell (must have powershell)
• Ability to use Fiddler or other similar proxy tools to debug HTTP traffic
• Experience using PuTTY to remotely administer devices via SSH interface
• Knowledge of SSL certificate management and installation
• Familiarity with Windows DirectAccess, BitLocker, & Dynamic Provisioning for workstations

 

Job Requirements

• Four years’ experience in lead systems administration roles
• Two years’ experience in lead network administration roles
• MCSE Cloud, Server Infrastructure, or other relevant Microsoft certifications recommended
• CCNA, CCNP, or other relevant Cisco certifications recommended


Employment Type:   Direct Hire   (or 6 months Contract-to-Hire)

Salary range:  $90,000 – 110,000 / year
